My name is Lori Shapiro. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 20 years of experience. I hold Licenses in Florida, Maryland and the District of Columbia. I am also a qualified clinical supervisor and a AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and a Marriage and Couples Therapist. I am a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators and Counselors and Therapists, and I work with both individuals and couples.

In my 20-plus year career, I have worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient mental health, crisis stabilization units, private practice, forensics with clients in the legal system, and foster care. I have a great deal of experience working with clients who identify as L,G,B,T,Q and alternate lifestyles.

I hold degrees from Florida Atlantic University, Barry University (Master’s in Social Work), as well as certification in sex therapy from the Modern institutes for Sex Therapy.

I am trained in effectively using cognitive behavioral therapies with mindfulness and am working on integrating emotionally-focused therapy techniques into my practice with couples as well. I have a unique ability to help you feel comfortable discussing any sexual topic, especially people who identify with non-conforming sexual interests such as BDSM and other lifestyles.

First and foremost my 20 plus years of practice has taught me that every person, couple or family with whom I work has unique needs and deserves to be treated as such. I’ve been described as an active, honest and engaging therapist who is able to truly help people move forward in their therapeutic journey, no matter the degree of difficulty. Clients and colleagues have told me they appreciate my genuine approach and my “outside-the-box” style. I’m very passionate about my work and it brings me a great deal of satisfaction when people tell me I have provided them with a safe space to learn, heal and grow.

I am able to provide a judgment-free zone so that people are able to reveal the nature of their distress and essentially become unstuck. I believe people are looking to connect and grow—whether it’s spiritually, psychologically and/or emotionally, and I can help successfully guide them through this often difficult, yet, exciting process.

I look forward to working with you!

Rates and fees vary for individual, couples and session times, please email me to set up a phone consultation to discuss this. Evening and weekend appointments are available.
